What is smog?
The phrase “smog” was initially introduced in the early 1900s to depict a fusion of smoke and fog. It is air pollution that decreases transparency. The facets which are liable for this comprise an increasing number of cars, factories, burning coal, wood, and other solid fuels in the furnace. It is common in industrial areas and stays a familiar spot in some cities these days.
How smog is formed?
Most of the smog we see these days is photochemical smog. When sunlight reacts with nitrogen oxides and one volatile organic compound (VOC) in the atmosphere then this photochemical smog is elicited. Volatile organic compounds are discharged from paints, gasoline, and many cleaning solvents. While Nitrogen oxides come from coal power, car exhaust, plants, and factory emission. When rays strike these chemicals, then they make smog.
Effects of smog on health:
Smog is a severe problem in numerous cities and damages human health. It can induce eye and nose irritation and dries out the defensive membranes of the throat and nose. It is toxic, especially for senior residents, children, and people with heart and lung diseases. It diminishes the lungs’ working ability, coughing, wheezing, and pain when sucking in intensely.
Various ways to reduce smog:
- If we’re utilizing public transport then it is a short manner of pitching into less air pollution. The lesser use of vehicles on roads will put up lesser emissions. It will also help in reducing overall emissions.
- We should avoid products that discharge high levels of the volatile organic compound.
- The concept of recycling and reuse is also helpful in decreasing pollution emissions. Because recycled products take less energy to make other creations.
· The power that the lights take also kicks into air pollution because less use of electricity can conserve energy.
- A long time requires to decompose Plastic products. So, their usage could be very dangerous to the atmosphere. Paper bag is a better alternative as they disintegrate readily and are recyclable.
- To reduce smog we can also use energy redemption fluorescent lights to assist the environment.
- We should reduce smoking and forest fires. Because The garbage getting on fire in dry seasons catching fires is a massive factor for causing air pollution.
- We should use electric appliancesinstead of lawn movers.
- The use of fans instead of Air Conditioner is also the cause of air pollution. Because AC takes up plenty of energy and emits heat which is nasty for the climate.
- The usage of crackers is also one of the biggest contributors to air pollution, directing to smog which is incredibly toxic to health. So, the exercise of no crackers should be executed.
Conclusion:
Smog is yet a problem in many areas. Everyone can do their role to lessen smog by altering a few behaviors. Many countries have made laws to diminish smog. Some laws include cutbacks on what chemicals a factory can discharge into the environment. So, our government should also make such rules to overcome smog.
